Yesterday, we found out that Frank Brunacci had left Sixteen. The move caught us off guard, especially since he helped start the restaurant in the Trump International Hotel and Tower back in 2008. The press release was also vague about his next move, only mentioning that he had left to pursue his “life’s passion in another field.” So, if running a high-end restaurant in one of the fanciest hotels in town isn’t his true passion, what is?

Chicago Reader first broke the news that Brunacci is planning on immediately joining his wife’s online truffle store business in nearby Marion, Indiana. The Chef’s Diamond Company distributes the treasured fungi to chefs around the area, and Brunacci had even been using many of the company’s products at Sixteen. But he won’t be stepping away from the kitchen for very long: Penny Pollack from Chicago Magazine also reports that he wants to open “trufffle-inspired restaurant” in the city by the end of 2011.
