Marc Summers thinks Philly’s food scene is awesome. With its triple threat of Starr, Garces and Vetri, the former Double Dare host and current producer of multiple Food Network shows believes its even better than New York! But he also thinks our city lacks good Mexican food. Well, to be fair, he says it’s missing fantastic Mexican food. In a Q +A in today’s Inky, Summers says he’s fine with Starr’s El Rey and El Vez for a “fix”, but laments, “I can’t find great Mexican here.” What we want to know is, where is he looking? Nearly every neighborhood in this city has benefited tremendously in the last decade from an influx of Mexican food that runs the gamut from mobile munchies at Taco Loco to the white tablecloth refinement at Paloma. Not even Iron Chef Garces’ Distrito nor the CookSolo Mexican joint Xochitl passes Summer’s muster. Man, he must be one tough critic! [Inquirer]
