Aw, Another Washed-Up Boston Waterfront Restaurant?

We get it, to some extent. Waterfront property is expensive and difficult for small, local upstart restaurants to afford, hence the profusion of chains at Liberty Wharf and elsewhere. But the latest news reported in the Herald — that North End restaurants want to halt the development of a $1 million “booze joint” on Long Wharf — gets us down just the same. This one’s over before it’s even had the chance to open! More ahead.

The North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association hopes to stop development of Doc’s Long Wharf, because it will eliminate “prime public space” and impede waterfront views. The residents have filed a suit with Suffolk Superior Court to block the 220-seat restaurant; they currently await a decision.

Meanwhile, today the Boston Licensing Board votes to possibly rescind the restaurant’s liquor license, thanks to the ongoing delays. The restaurant has been in development for five years, which does seem like a reasonable amount of time to begin questioning what the hell is going on.

We just want to find some terrific, local food on the water. Is that too much to ask? Jody Adams, we’re looking at you.
