What the AP Stylebook’s Food Section Forgot

Yesterday the AP rolled out its 2011 Stylebook complete with a sixteen-page food section. While we’re happy to know that there’s now only one way to spell huitlacoche, we did note some omissions.

What, no guidelines on when to hyphenate “farm-to-fork”? (Perhaps even the grammarians cringed at that one.) At what point is it acceptable to simply write “Padma”? Second ref? What are the general recommendations for using “Gwyneth Paltrow” as an adjective? And most crucial: When quoting Ruth Bourdain, should we employ “he,” “she,” or “it”?
