Temporary Closings

Weird Fish Remains Closed, Its Future (and Commitment to Fish) Uncertain

We have to admit we kind of lost track of this one, but Weird Fish has been shuttered “for repairs” since April 1, and it may or may not reopen, with or without a fish-centric menu. Mission Local has been tracking the various Facebook updates that have culminated with a message from co-owner Tim Holt saying that he’s “not quite sure when we’ll reopen.” The once popular Mission restaurant, which provided chef/con artist Alex Jackson with his first gig in town and subsequently played host to a vegan controversy, is now in limbo as Holt and co-owner Peter Hood appear to be dissolving their partnership. Holt promises that if and when they do reopen, Weird Fish will have a new chef, and a menu that will focus only on locally caught product. (Also, he was never really a fan of the vegan stuff on the menu, like the “buffalo girls,” and he once insisted “this is NOT a vegan restaurant.”) But now he’s sounding like he wants to get out of the seafood game altogether. “Honestly,” he says, “most fish need a break.” [Mission Local]
