Swanky Bubbles to Lose Its Neither Swanky nor Bubbly Moniker

After today Swanky Bubbles, the champagne and sushi spot in Old City that was conceived as some sort of dot-com-era fantasy and miraculously managed to hang on long after the bubble burst, is no more. Don’t worry, it’s not closing. Rather it’s going under the knife with Bar Rescue, the forthcoming Spike TV show that we reported took a crack at refreshing Downey’s last week. Unlike the weathered and worn South Street bar, which the show’s host, Jon Taffer, told Grub Street was one of the city’s oldest Irish pubs (as if) and therefore should retain its name, Swanky Bubbles we’re told will most certainly lose its goofy moniker. As for other changes — there will be plenty — you’ll have to wait until Saturday night’s reveal party, which should be open to the public after 8:30 p.m.
