Rendezvous Opens, and Mattin Noblia Resurfaces There, Jaunty Red Scarf and All

Top Chef alum and charming Frenchman Mattin Noblia rises once again, and the Scoop reports that he’s taken a position in the kitchen at Rendezvous Tapas Lounge — that’s the replacement concept we discussed earlier for Heights Ultra-Lounge at Van Ness and Pacific, opening tonight. Noblia shuttered his North Beach restaurant Iluna Basque back in December and said he’d be taking a break from the biz for a bit. Meanwhile, Rendezvous was set to open with Terzo chef Philip Busacco, but that apparently fell through.

The concept for the 96-seat restaurant-within-a-nightclub is Mediterranean tapas, and it will morph into more of a club environment as the night wears on with an abbreviated bar menu.

And one can guess that if your table is too close to dancing booties, said booties might be in danger of knocking over your wine, so its for the best if the kitchen closes a bit earlier than the bar.

Rendezvous Tapas Lounge - 2080 Van Ness Avenue, at Pacific - 415.409.4660 - Serving dinner Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. until the dancefloor gets too rowdy.
