Not to be outdone by the Benu burrito cart, Coi chef Daniel Patterson and his partner-in-crime Charlie Parker (chef de cuisine at Plum) have rolled out a new lunch-time food cart outside Plum called Porky, serving a single item: a nine-dollar porchetta sandwich. Tasting Table reports that it is indeed an excellent porchetta sandwich, with a quarter-pound of thinly sliced Marin Sun Farms pork, shaved fennel-and-radish slaw “laced with whiskers of lemon zest,” aioli and an Acme ciabatta bun. (Sounds like they’re looking to poach a few customers who might have otherwise waited in line at Bakesale Betty, a few doors down, for a fried chicken sandwich.) Obviously it’s hilarious and charming that a two-star Michelin chef and repeated James Beard Award nominee should be behind a sandwich cart with a cartoon pig on it, but such is Patterson’s sense of humor. Look out later on when he launches his possible East Bay sausage joint; it just might be called Wienertown, or similar.
