Lingua Calls It Quits After Less Than Three Months

In March, we announced the opening of Lingua, but now, we’re biting our tongue — the restaurant has shuttered after less than three months. Apparently, it was taking a licking financially: A manager who was cleaning out the space yesterday told us that they were “losing money” and had to close. Perhaps the menu, which offered a slew of innards, like tripe Florentine, lamb sweetbreads, and tongue, was a bit too adventurous for East Villagers’ tastes. Or maybe the space at 111 First Avenue, near Seventh Street, is simply cursed: You’ll recall that the previous tenant, Lautrec Bistro, barely lasted a year.
