Jason Fullilove Finds a New Home With Seth Caro at Curious Palate

We’ve read a lot about chef Jason Fullilove, but never caught up with the chef when he was at The Gorbals, Da Vinci, or his recent short stint at Desert Rose. But the chef has a new home at a splashy sequel to The Curious Palate, Mar Vista’s conscious gourmet deli, that’s opening next week during the debut of The Market at Santa Monica Place.

The new location of Curious Palate will be found on the mall’s roof and plans to introduce new small plates and entrees with Fullilove in the kitchen, as well as new evening hours. IN addition to Fullilove, Curious Palate has Seth Caro, who was a contestant on Top Chef: Just Desserts and counts New York’s Grayz, Chanto, and Perilla on his resume.

Among Fullilove’s quiver are dishes like spork shoulder crepinette, ras el hanout lamb belly, ea urchin and black rice beignets (sounds like one of those dishes only Ludo should attempt), veel cheek tagine, and confit beef tongue sliders. Sounds promising for people like us who like body parts. Caro, meanwhile, plans to back it all up with such sweets as butterscotch donuts, cherry vanilla sundaes, and sticky coconut cake.

The team clearly shows Curious Palate embracing its new public spotlight by going bigger, having labored hard over the years as a neighborhood favorite. It will be interesting to follow where the new vision takes the restaurant as it deals with tourist hordes and Santa Monica mall rats. More interesting still, will be seeing if the rolling stone that is chef Fullilove has finally found a restaurant that he can call home for a while.
