First Look at The Space and Menu at Artichoke’s Heart, Now Open on Melrose

This past Friday, Artichoke’s Heart opened on Melrose as the northern cousin of El Corazon de Alcachofa, which has a location in Guadalajara and another in Mexico City. The restaurant space is contemporary Spanish, while the menu could be mistaken for something you might find in Buenos Aires, trumpeting both steakhouse cuisine and handmade pasta dishes. Relying strictly on word of mouth, we’re tempted to call this a sort of anti-Red O, a real contemporary metropolitan Mexican restaurant with less hype and dazzle, a subdued but artistic interior, a no-frills menu, and a cocktail list with tequila at the forefront of its mind (at this point, the restaurant displays about 30 varieties, soon to be joined by more). The menu is market-driven, carries straight-forward meat options, and is subject to seasonal change, and we have the first one right here for you, below. Owners tell us they are waiting to see how Artichoke’s Heart plays in L.A., at which point more locations could be considered across the States. Take a look at our slide show of the space and the full menu at Artichoke’s Heart.
