Temporary Closings

Deep Breaths: Mission Chinese Food Takes Three-Week Hiatus

A legion of ma po tofu addicts around the Mission are going to be sorely disappointed this month as they dial the Mission Chinese Food number for delivery (or as they arrive at the restaurant, hoping to see fewer than ten names ahead of them on the clipboard): the restaurant is temporarily closed June 1 to June 23. As Ms. Tablehopper reports, chef Danny Bowien and the entire crew is traveling to the hometown of the owners of Lung Shan (the restaurant in which MCF lives) alongside them. It’s both a culinary research trip for Bowien and a homecoming for the Lung Shan owners, who haven’t been back to China in five years.

This comes just after the restaurant got its second helping of NYT love in one month (the first was here), in which Mark Bittman declares the restaurant one of three of “the country’s hottest destination restaurants.” Thus all SF-bound tourists who read the Times Mag over the weekend are also going to be sadfaced at the Closed sign, too.
