Coffee Tomo Brings Hand-Dripped Mud and Homemade Pretzels to Sawtelle

Originally promised in March, Coffee Tomo is set to open any day now on West L.A.’s Sawtelle. Tomo looks to be the expected result of combining the Japanese taste for perfection with the current U.S. craze for hand-dripped coffee. The cafes’ owners promise this to be a gourmet, upscale experience, roasting their beans daily and letting customers select them personally. Using a Kalita, Kono, or Hario for equipment, they prepare each cup of hand-dripped coffee individually for every customer. The results already look potentially more gorgeous than the cups coming out of Intelligentsia.

In fact, take a look. So far, the photographic evidence is astoundingly artistic. In addition to coffee, espresso, icy blends, and tea, Tomo will also offer an assortment of fresh pretzels and pastries, with the dough made daily for flavors like pumpkin cheese and honey butter bread. Their beans, which can be seen on the full online menu, can also be purchased by the pound to grind at home. It probably won’t look anywhere near as perfect as if you get it to stay.
