Changes Afoot at B³ As Original Managing Partners Depart

B3, or B-Cubed as it’s called (originally meant to stand for Bottles, Burgers, and Bites) may be looking at some more shifts in the near term as we hear from managing partner Johnny Gato (a.k.a. John Prudenti) that he and his original partners have all parted ways with the ownership. Gato tried to help revamp the place in March with a new food menu and an effort to refocus on the small production wines and “winemakers’ speakeasy” concept they’d started with when the place opened. He found that the wine program was not necessarily reaching its proper audience, and that the restaurant was becoming more and more of a bare-bones, burger-and-beer spot. It remains open, but expect the wine offerings to get somewhat less interesting without Gato in charge — and we’re curious to see what else may happen next. Meanwhile, Gato is at work on a top-secret S.F. project, and all he’ll say for now is that it’s “something the city hasn’t seen yet.” Stay tuned. [Grub Street, Earlier]
