The idea of Australian barbecue by the beach is really rather appealing. However, Venice’s Bondi BBQ went strong on Australian surf character, but was rather weak when it came to its ribs, pulled pork, and burgers. Yo! Venice! reports that the restaurant, following a few months of planning a supposed relaunch, has officially closed its doors, which just might be the restaurant world equivalent to having a dingo eat your baby.
While the food kept us outside, the view of a fun, rustic restaurant well-suited to casual beach-goers was a lovely one. Considering the aggressive Yuppie invasion in this seaside city and The Hotel Erwin’s expanded encroachment on Windward Avenue with Larry’s, the space left behind by Bondi should be scooped up fairly quickly by another entrepreneur seeking to storm the seaside. Maybe that once promised Venice location of Cafe Habana will take advantage of the shutter?
