Another Chef Shuffle at Nombe

It appears the chef, and the menu, will be switching up once again at one-year-old Mission izakaya Nombe. Vincent Schofield, who took over from Nick Balla in January, is out (we’re guessing the two-star Bauer downgrade might have something to do with it), and chef-owner Mari Takahashi will be taking over the kitchen, at least for the time being. Takahashi owns Nombe and Izakaya Sozai with her husband (and resident sake expert) Gil Payne, and in revising the menu she promises “ingredients and dishes that are typically not found outside of Japan.” It may be that Schofield wasn’t quite prepared for the Japanese-heavy menu, and had taken things in too much of an Americanized direction.
