If you needed further evidence that Tribeca is (maybe finally) becoming something of a hot spot, Matt Abramcyk’s new one, Tiny’s, opened Monday for lunch, with dinner slated to roll out May 2. The cozy bi-level space is housed in a landmarked 1810 historic building, and the first floor holds a light-filled dining room in front and fireplace-decked nook in back, with “the Bar Upstairs” on the second floor, along with more dining tables — that’s 60 seats in all. As we mentioned in March, Ambramcyk’s siblings Ana and Jack are partners in the operation, and Ana confesses, “We’re all antiquers,” which accounts for details like original tin ceilings, vintage two-tone wallpaper, salvaged wood paneling, and assorted furnishings with an appealing, well-loved patina.
Ana says the restaurant will be less exclusive than some of her brother’s past and current projects (ahem, the Beatrice Inn, the Bunker). “We’re a warmhearted family, very inclusive … We wanted to create a place where — without sounding like Cheers — everybody kind of knows your name,” she tells Grub Street. In that spirit, the plan will be to take some dinner reservations but also “leave a bunch of tables open for walk-ins.” For now, a reservation shouldn’t be a problem for lunch, where you can dine on a limited menu that includes a burger and a few sandwiches, salads, and soups (see the menu below). The dinner menu is t.b.d., but it will keep to “the vein of New American with subtle Italian undertones,” Ana says. And that secret third-floor event room? “Right now it’s an office,” Ana tells us, “but in the future, it might be something more.”
