A turnkey restaurant space at the base of a condo tower on Nob Hill is up for grabs after sitting empty for quite a while. The space that once housed the legendary Vanessi’s (from the time that it moved uphill in 1986 until its closing in 1997) in the Gramercy Towers (1177 California Street) is on the market. Now, it may not be turnkey for anyone who wants to completely remodel the place and reverse the curse on this space of the last few years — it’s been known, ever so briefly, as The Californian, Sparrow, Watergate, and Gramercy Grill. There are built-in crowds from the Masonic Auditorium, the upstairs condo dwellers, and Grace Cathedral, but we could imagine a more foodie-friendly operation making it work here.
