Borough Park’s Ziclick isn’t the only offshoot of Israeli gelato chain Aldo to open: A week ago, in Kips Bay, Mia Chef Gelataria opened in the former Tease space. The owner tells us “it’s the same” as Aldo, “but everything is made into American flavors” — meaning chocolate whiskey, Cap’n Crunch, and lemon-raspberry cheesecake are among the many daily rotating varieties (panna cotta and crème brûlée are others). There are also sorberts as well as “doppio zero” (sugar- and fat-free gelato), but perhaps most exciting are the “Mi Amore” cakes; they’re variations on the hollow, cylindrical Hungarian “kurtosh” pastry — their dough is made in-house, shaped on rolling pins, and then dulce de leche, toffee, and hazelnut-chocolate varieties are baked to order. Mia Chef Gelataria is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. till midnight and weekends until the last customer is served.
