Some nostalgic spots are too beloved to get bulldozed, and Oakland’s Kwik Way (500 Lake Park Avenue, at Lakeshore) has finally reopened under the ownership of Gary Rizzo of the nearby Somerset Restaurant, as Oakland Local and the Scoop are reporting. After threats of becoming a McDonald’s or a FatBurger, the retro drive-thru sat, sad and shuttered, for several years until news arrived last fall that Rizzo was trying to revive it.

Expect crowds most evenings, because everyone loves a decent burger and milkshake, but also expect fried chicken, pizzas, and a few other new items. Sadly, because everything in Oakland closes early, this won’t exactly be a late-night destination — a sign on the door lists hours as 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. An early arriving Yelper notes that they’re still working out the kinks, but that the “fries were worthy of multiple trips back.”
