Check Out Xolo: The Menu, the Tacos, and the Digs, Now Open In Oakland

Xolo (1916 Telegraph), the aforementioned next-door taqueria from the Flora (and Doña Tomas) team of Dona Savitsky and Thomas Schnetz, opened today. (The name comes from a breed of Mexican hairless dog that goes back 3,000 years, full name: Xoloitzcuintle.) We hopped in to sample some tacos, and we can already declare the Vampiro (al pastor, salsa ranchera, red onions, serrano chilis, and cilantro on a fried-cheese tortilla) a sure winner. Also of note, they’re doing bacon-wrapped hot dogs with the works and calling them Danger Dogs, the chile verde is very delicious, and on weekends they’ll be doing birria (goat braised in a chile broth, served with rice and tortillas). See the full menu below, scan through our slideshow, and expect some serious lines to form at this place on show nights at the Fox Theater across the street.
