Castro Jewelry Shop/Wine Bar Owner Catches Muni Driver Texting, Gets On News

Shawn Higgins, who owns the new jewelry store-cum-wine bar D&H; Sustainable Jewelers in the Castro — and who incidentally recently got their Planning approval to operate their part-time wine bar in the back of the store, highlighting small-production California wines from places that don’t have tasting rooms of their own — appeared on the local news last night not because of his store, but because he caught an especially charming Muni driver texting while driving. He video’d the female driver in fact, via her overhead mirror, and when he confronted her she lashed back at the whole bus, said “I’ll never pick you up again asshole,” and promptly took the bus out of service saying she was sick. jewelry

Muni says that’s not allowed — neither the texting nor the choosing who to pick up — and suspended the driver for three days, but she is now back at work (the incident happened back in February). And, you know, Muni remains as awesome as ever.
