A rendering of the revamped former Citizen Cake space, soon to be known as Boxing Room.
It’s been steadily under construction and scheduled for a spring opening, and Grub Street receives word today that Absinthe’s new New Orleans-inspired offshoot, Boxing Room (399 Grove Street, the old Citizen Cake), is on track for a mid-May opening. You can look forward to faithful Cajun cuisine from N.O. native Justin Simoneaux; a raw bar, featuring just-harvested oysters on the half-shell and other stuff; beignets and such by Absinthe’s pastry chef Bill Corbett; twenty beers on tap; and a large wine selection, including six on tap, available by the glass, carafe, pitcher, or bottle. There won’t be any Hurricanes or Sazeracs, though; there’s only a beer-and-wine license.
