Artisanal L.A. Goes West This Weekend

While half of the city will be banging its head at Coachella, this weekend also finds the return of Artisanal LA, only this time, the hand-crafted food market and indie shopping center is popping up on the Dining Deck at Santa Monica Place. Organizers say the event has grown since the last one, held this past fall in Downtown, with nearly 100 food vendors on offer here in an indoor space. In addition to the things you can buy, like pie from Crust, spiced chocolates from Masala, teas from Sugarbird, and cheese from Soledad Goats, you’ll also have opportunities to learn, as Library Bar’s Matt Biancaniello shows you how to make cocktails, Rocker Brothers demonstrate butchering, and Gourmandise School of Savories and Sweets holds cooking classes, alongside informational panels on craft beer, bread baking, table-setting, and urban homesteading. What else?

Well, it gets more Portlandia from there, with photo booths, DJs, and valets for your bike, plus free stuff like drinks from POM, Dry Soda, Coba, and Honest Tea. There will be a Venokado wine tasting, sn organic spirit tasting, and a hosted apothecary bar for the 21 and up crowd, plus previews of the mall’s coming space, The Market, and Downtown’s soon-to-come Daily Dose.

And yes, there’s more free stuff for your ten dollar admission! There’s a lounge sponsored by Numi Tea and Magical Blooms, samples, and giveaways up the yin-yang. Plus, portion of proceeds goes to benefit St. Vincent Meals on Wheels. A complete list of vendors is currently online with $10 tickets available on the website or for $15 at the door.
