Plants App Hits iPhones

Now that even Details is weighing in on the foraging trend, those who look particularly fetching in hunter’s plaid have a new tool for distinguishing their wild carrots from their poisonous hemlock. As promised, “Wildman” Steve Brill has released his Wild Edibles iPhone app (we wonder how the seafood purveyor of the same name feels about that), which details around 150 common North American plants. The $7.99 full version is available via iTunes (iPad and Android versions are in the works), and there’s also a free “lite” edition, for those on a forager’s budget. But bad news for fungus foragers like chef Jonathon Sawyer (who, by the way, makes a mean duck pasta): Mushrooms aren’t among the edibles covered. [iTunes]
