You might’ve thought Flex Mussels had a lock on the international mussels thing what with its two locations and its couple dozen varieties of broth, but its downtown location, at least, will get some competition on March 24. At the Mussel Pot, chef Ronnie Esposito (formerly executive sous-chef at NYY Steak) will also be giving the mollusks the cosmopolitan treatment: His one-pound pots (served with housemade bread) are prepared in the spirit of Italy (hey, it’s another ciopino!), India (with red curry, tomato, coconut milk), Spain (paella-style, with clams, chorizo, fennel, peas, etc.), and other countries, bien sur. Plus, there’ll be shell-less crowd-pleasers like lobster macaroni and cheese and spicy buttermilk fried chicken with an herb and wild rice waffle. When the weather’s nice, you’ll be able to decide between sidewalk seating and an outdoor garden complete with a cascading waterfall and a pond holding koi. We’re presuming those aren’t on the menu — we’ll see when it’s revealed in the coming days.
