R.I.P. Joe Alioto, Veteran Wharf Restaurateur

Joseph Alioto, who for forty years ran Alioto’s restaurant on Fisherman’s Wharf along with his cousin Nunzio, died early this morning at age 59 after a long illness. He was part of a family deeply tied to San Francisco politics and North Beach for generations, and worked the front of the house at the family business that’s been open since 1925. “Everybody knew Joey and he knew everyone,” says Nunzio via the Chron. “People will remember Joey for his laughter, his sense of fun and his big, big heart.” [Chron]
