More Prohibition-Era Posturing Coming to Chinatown

A simple cocktail without the Prohibition posturing
A simple cocktail without the Prohibition posturing

Yesterday Meal Ticket floated a doozy about the super-hush-hush Hop Sing Laundromat, a speakeasy-esque cocktail joint coming somewhere near 10th and Race streets in Chinatown in the not too distant future. Not much else is known about the project, other than its entrance might be in a neighboring shoeshine shop, and that it’s been in the works for a long time. So long in fact that places like the Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co. and the Ranstead Room have already beaten it to the speakeasy punch. While we’ve had a lot of booze-soaked fun playing baptists and bootleggers just like everyone else, we’d be lying if we didn’t say we long for the time when bars were just bars and not gimmicky attractions with Prohibition pretenses.
