Foodies With Benefits

IDG, Hit + Run, Sake Fest, and FreshEast Pitch In For Japan

A few more restaurants and events are joining the fund-raising efforts for Japan’s relief. Innovative Dining Group, who have long had a Nippon association with its restaurants Boa, Katana, Robata Bar, and Sushi Roku, will donate 25% of all proceeds to the Red Cross from its restaurants’ (including Delphine) lunch and dinner service on March 21. Over at FreshEast, a donation box has been set-up for those who wish to help in West Hollywood, something we’re hoping to see more of. And there are also three fun events that will lend Japan a hand in the next two weeks.

Hit + Run, the graphic screen-print party-lords who help you design and print your own one-of-a-kind street wear at events around town, are opening their own gallery tonight at Venice’s Townhouse. Next Friday, March 25th, the crew will join up with El Cid restaurant for L.A. Love: Japan, a night of DJs, screen-printing, and special guests with a ten-dollar cover that will go 100% to Habitat for Humanity’s Pacific efforts. The following Thursday, March 31st, Low End Theory will again team with Hit + Run for Low End Loves Japan, where Gaslamp Killer and D-Styles will be among the musical talent playing to the visuals of Dr. Strangeloop, while the ten-dollar covers goes 100% to Japanese Red Cross Society.

Next Saturday, Drink Eat Play’s L.A. Sake Fest is coming round the bend again as well. The March 26th event will be back at The Renaissance Hotel with dozens of different sakes, beginner’s classes, sake cocktails, and a slew of desserts. Ten dollars from every $50 ticket sold will go to relief efforts in Japan.

It’s certainly hard to keep our minds off of the worry we feel for our friends and family in Japan. At least there is no shortage of exciting events and generous restaurants doing their parts to offer ways to help the country as it confronts the damage and fear resulting from its recent tragedy.
