Bar Dogwood Opens in Oakland, Complete With Charcuterie, and Secret Handshake

Hey kids! Bar Dogwood (1644 Telegraph Avenue), the newest addition to the booming Uptown district in Oakland that we mentioned a few weeks back, is now open. As the Tribune reports (albeit from the perspective of someone who orders Merlot, in a cocktail bar), the place is nice inside, the bartenders are “unpretentious but refined,” and their charcuterie program is up and running, featuring wild boar salumi, cured pork loin, and lardo, all made in-house by owner Alexeis Filipello (formerly co-owner of the House of Shields). Also of note, we learn via Facebook that they’re doing Industry Night on Mondays, and if you learn the secret handshake and you work in a bar or restaurant, you get $3 well drinks from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Also in the way of food, they’ve got cheeses, and “really small small plates.” Fox concert-going just got a little more filling…

Here’s their official website, which isn’t yet operational. Hours, phone number: TBA.
