Aziza to Finally Move Somewhere Convenient

Huzzah! Outer Richmond restaurant Aziza, which has, despite its hinterlands location, won quite a few fans and a Michelin star, will be bringing its modern Moroccan cuisine to the Financial District, as the Scoop reports. Chef-owner Mourad Lahlou has inked a deal to take over the former Zinnia digs at 500 Jackson, also once home to Scott Howard and, more recently, a fake restaurant movie set. Lahlou has apparently been after the space since Zinnia shuttered over a year ago, and he’s still a bit undecided about whether to open under a new name, or just keep it as Aziza.

The timeline is still up in the air, with construction starting in about 60 days. Perhaps because of what’s been called the “500 Jackson curse,” Lahlou and designer Olle Lundberg (Slanted Door, Presidio Social Club) plan to move the entrance of the restaurant around the corner to Montgomery Street, changing the official address to 801 Montgomery.

And furthermore, Lahlou may end up holding on to the Geary Boulevard spot for a more rustic, casual Moroccan restaurant, but that’s undecided as well.
