Another New Orleans Joint, Mara’s Homemade, Will Close

First Acme, and now another New Orleans restaurant down: Mara’s Homemade has announced it will close at the end of April, via a letter reprinted on Eater that blames the BP oil spill, bike lanes that reduced parking, and rising property taxes for an inability to afford a rent hike. Actually, we suspect the restaurant’s price point had more to do with keeping East Villagers away than the bike lanes did, and then there’s this to consider from a Zagat column in which Tangled Wine owner Bruce Kravetz dispenses advice on opening a wine bar: “There is a truism in real estate that also applies to restaurants that the three most important decisions you can make are location, location, location.  A corner is better than halfway down a side street.  Outdoor seating is a must, either in the front or backyard; everyone loves to dine/drink outside, weather permitting.”
