Today Umami Burger officially opens its fifth location, a long narrow space on Ventura Blvd. that seeks to embody the “Hollywood renaissance” look through black and red leather chairs and banquettes, dark marble flooring, chandeliers, and classic moldings. Otherwise, it’s mostly the same Umami menu in a different location with a radically different, more glamorous look than its predecessors. Even the bartenders are looking smart and spiffy in suspenders. And speaking of the full bar, one thing that does differ from Umami to Umami seems to be the beer selection. The new Umami is surprisingly situated just a block from Studio City’s location of The Counter, which makes us kind of proud to see both of our local burger-chains-made-good sharing the street.
