There are 114 days, thirteen hours, and some-odd minutes and seconds till Rockaway Taco reopens for the season, according to the official countdown clock. This summer, there may be extra incentive to hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach. We’ve been told the taco shack threw its name in the hat for those boardwalk concessions last fall, and it’s looking more and more like a done deal, judging by an interview with Fany Gerson.
She tells Fork in the Road that she and Rockaway Taco are “working out a deal for me to take a concession stand there for the summer,” and if it works out, she may be selling her La Newyorkina paletas (plus new items — sorbet and ice cream!) not only from a small Brooklyn storefront, but also from a storefront near Rockaway Taco, as well as from carts along the boardwalk. So while you won’t be able to smoke on the beach anymore, you might at least be able to enjoy the perfect fish taco and a mango-chile ice pop. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear more.
