The Market Opens May 20th on Santa Monica Place’s Dining Deck

Remember the whole market component of Santa Monica Place that planned to give San Francisco’s Ferry Building a run for its money? It has always seemed like the most exciting part of the project (at least for food-people, not necessarily for Kitson fans), especially now that we’ve gotten used to the so-so selection of restaurants on the Dining Deck. The good news is that an opening date has fiiiinally been set for The Market on May 20th, nearly nine months after the mall’s rebirth. What will you find here?

The Market will take center stage of the top floor of S.M. Place, with organic and artisan products and produce, plus new shops from local businesses like Venokado wine shop, L’Artisan du Chocolat boutique, N’Ice Cream’s daily made gelato, a bake-while-you-wait pastry station from Rockenwagner, coffee by King’s Road, sandwiches and products from Curious Palate, and a French cooking school from Clemence Gossett of Gourmandise Desserts. The project is still open to vendors too, giving emerging entrepreneurs a few more months to get in. So if you’re more interested in baguettes than Burberry or heritage beans than shopping at Bloomingdale’s, this might be the unique draw that brings you back into Santa Monica Place.
