Is Jo Stougaard’s endeavor to eat everything at Jitlada spawning a monster? Despite her best intentions, and probably due to her book deal, it just might be. Today, Squid Ink’s Elina Shatkin starts a quest to eat 30 burgers in 30 days, those new FDA recommendations be darned (she assures readers that L.A. Weekly has great health-care benefits).

You can see a “before” photo of Shatkin in yellow today online photographing a punch bowl and looking all lean, “mean,” and cute. Didn’t she see Supersize Me and watch in horror like the rest of us as that ginger dude gained weight and shaved years off of his life? Hasn’t she read Jay Rayner’s The Man Who Ate the World? Hopefully, someone over there at leads reads today’s L.A. Diet to see what 30 days of In-N-Out burgers did to the singer of Delta Spirit and puts the breaks on this thing before t harms her health.

Anyway, she starts with Go Burger’s “Prime Steakhouse Burger,” finding it “a damn fine burger but hardly worth the $18.” As for the chain’s Ulti-MELT (two grilled cheese sandwiches acting as buns to a slab of ground beef) she offers that “It’s more of a PR stunt than a burger.” No doubt, everybody knows by now that, like the new footlong cheeseburger at Carl’s Jr., restaurants are trying their best to double-down on KFC’s Double Down. But is this edible undertaking any less of a stunt itself? One with consequences beyond a spot on CNN? Can the price of a functioning colon really be measured in web traffic? Guess we’ll find out in 30 days.
