Former Anisette admiral Alain Giraud talks with Palisades Post today about his planned restaurant, Maison Giraud. Dante shuttered last Saturday night to make way for Giraud’s simpler, “more contemporary” space with street-side seating for 20 (how very Parisian). The chef plans a bakery at the restaurant for neighbors to grab fresh brioche, a strawberry tart, and coffee, and the place will open early and close late seven days a week. Giraud wants everything at the ingredient-driven restaurant to be simple and clean, with light salads for lunch, loads of market veggies and herbs, roast chicken, early family dinners, traditional French snacks in the afternoon, and late-night trysts, with a stress on French and Californian cuisine, but nothing that can be labeled a bistro or brasserie. Not unlike the farm dinners at FIG, Giraud will pick one ingredient and make a menu around it. The chef still plans space for his better half, including a separate, but neighboring boutique for his wife’s linen business. Construction is just beginning, but Giraud is hoping for a debut in mid-May.
