It’s a Big Day for Bittman

Today’s the day Mark Bittman debuts his new Twitter avatar! Oh, okay. His first Times “Opinion” column is up, too. In it, Bittman lays out the things he says will make “the growing, preparation and consumption of food healthier, saner, more productive, less damaging and more enduring.” Among them: shift government subsidies from processed-food manufacturers to “those who produce and sell actual food for direct consumption”; break up the USDA; encourage sustainable methods for producing meat; and promote home-cooking through subsidized cooking classes. If you haven’t done so already, it’s well worth reading. [Opinionator/NYT]
