We learn today that Sicilian restaurateur Santo Sacca is closing the book on Grano at the Depot, which he opened just a year ago with Sardinian native Fabrizio Castagnia. “We are working on some possibilities,” says Santo, “but at the moment [the closure] looks permanent.” The Depot spot has been a restaurant almost continuously since 1925, and in the last decade has been known as The Depot, Lobster Shack, and Fabrizio’s Restaurant, prior to becoming Grano. Eater catches the news via Facebook, and notes that the for-sale listing for Grano notes the proximity of Rotisserie & Wine and Morimoto Napa as a selling point — even though competition from these new restaurants at the giant Riverfront complex was probably the nail in the coffin for Grano.
