Caña Brings a New Cuban Food Destination to Oakland

New on the Oakland scene as of last week is Caña (530 Lake Park Avenue, Oakland), from the chef-owner of La Taza de Café (shuttered in 2009), Daniel Brajkovich and business partner Yusuf Spiers. The fast-casual place in a former fish taco joint is focused on Cuban cuisine, and menu items include empanadas and bocadillos, as well as a signature item Barjkovich developed: the toston cup — twice fried plantains in a black bean chimichurri puree, topped by a sheep milk cheese, as the Tribune reports. Also on offer: fresh chocolate chip cookies with sea salt, and Blue Bottle coffee, served Cuban-style.

There will also be a next-door lounge component to Caña, which is being dubbed the “parlor” and which should be open soon.
