The beloved Washington Square Bar & Grill (1707 Powell Street), known to regulars as the WashBag and a former watering hole for Herb Caen, closed last summer after almost 40 years in business. The Chron brings word today that it’s been sold to Dane Boryta, executive chef at Sens, and his wife and business partner Liz Ferro, and the two plan to rechristen it as Bottle Cap. The concept is a comfortable bar-restaurant, with cocktails by Bourbon and Branch’s Pete Gowdy, and an “ingredient-driven” American menu. They’ll be open for lunch and dinner, following a remodel. Opening TBA. [Chron, Earlier]
