Mr. Bauer today, at the suggestion of chef David Kinch, hunts down former chef Alain Rondelli who had an eponymous restaurant in the 90’s on the site of what’s now Chapeau! (126 Clement Street). It turns out, after getting four stars from the Chronicle and achieving all he’d set out to achieve as a chef, Rondelli decided to take off the apron and become a software geek. “I fell in love with high-level language like C++ hard core computer code,” Rondelli tells Bauer, and explains that he’s still seeking funding for some restaurant marketing software he developed. Also of note, he might like to open Rondelli’s Deli somewhere in town, which will be a silverware-free, hands-only dining concept.
