There were rumors that this may happen, but now it looks like it is confirmed: Target will be moving into the Carson Pirie Scott Building on State Street. The store will open by 2012, and will take up 120,000 to 140,000 square feet in the absolutely gorgeous Louis Sullivan designed building. In the past year, Target has expanded its grocery options significantly, so besides all the normal daily goods, it will be one of the only big grocery stores in the Loop. Talking to Crain’s, Ty Tabing, the executive director of the Chicago Loop Alliance, said, “There are residents down here clamoring for a grocery store in the neighborhood. It would certainly be a welcomed addition.” [Crain’s]
