Prohibition-Era Gastropub Trend Hitting North Hollywood with Food That Could Get You Buzzed

Considering how far it’s come, we figured creative cocktail culture’s dependence on Prohibition-style gimmickry would stay buried in 2009, or maybe way down in the vault’s of The Edison. But alas, the trend has finally reached North Hollywood, where Knitting Factory Entertainment is planning to open The Federal Bar on January 28th. A press release informs us this two-level bar and restaurant is housed in an original bank from 1926 and will be tout the title “gastro-pub” while stokcing 20 great brews on tap, wine, a full spirits bar, and new American cooking from Louis Fuentes and Shad Davis, Federal’s executive chef. What will be served?

Expect Wild Turkey meatballs, which we assume are named for the liquor, seeing as everything mentioned swerves onto the boozier side of eating. There is also a red wine poached halibut over root veggies and IPA spare ribs with melted leeks, plus sea salt and herb fries. Perfect for the high-stressing studio wonks that work in the neighborhood.

The ground floor will be split into two rooms of art deco design and bare brick, while an upstairs will provide a special event space which will go private when needed and also provide space for Kitting Factory to put on a show or two. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, this might be time to plug your phone in! The Federal opens January 28th.
