Paty’s Taco Truck Protests Fines With $1 Tacos Today

Paty’s, the taco truck that was pushed out of the Upper East Side after a monthlong ticketing spree culminated in the arrest of its owner, is rallying for the passage of a couple of street-vendor-friendly City Council bills that would reduce the maximum for non-health-related fines to $250, rather than the ridiculous $1,000 fines vendors currently get socked with (watch this Street Vendor Project video and ice down your veins to keep your blood from boiling). So how’s the truck protesting? By returning to the Upper East Side to sell $1 tacos! Civil disobedience never felt so good.

Today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Paty’s truck will park at 86th Street and Lexington Avenue. If you’re stuck in the office and can’t vote with your mouth, follow the Street Vendor Project’s campaign to “lower the fines” (so far, the City Council bill has seventeen co-sponsors) via this Facebook page.
