Papaya King Going Hollywood

Cafe Habana hasn’t translated very well from lower Manhattan to the shores of Malibu, and Rosa Mexicano received mixed responses from L.A.’s critics, but that’s not stopping Sam Nazarian from importing NYC’s legendary hot dog and juice spot Papaya King to Hollywood. Eater reports that Nazarian’s company SBE has plans to attach Papaya King to an ambitious new lounge and bar at the former Nacional space, which is kind of like putting a taco stand at Las Palmas or a hot dog cart at The Fairmont Hotel. Nazarian is a fairly flashy owner for such an everyday spot, making us cringe that this could be another import that doesn’t quite live up to the original, as much as we love Papaya King. Either way, as long as bacon-wrapped street dogs don’t disappear, club-goers stumbling down the Walk of Fame shouldn’t have too much to worry about in the hot dog department.
