Even the goat gets a makeover.

Last night was the inaugural evening for Fatty Johnson’s, the temporary bar from Zak Pelaccio and the Fatty Crew in the old Cabrito space. The pop-up’s first guest bartender — name mixologists will serve drinks every other night or so, we’re told — punch guru Dave Wondrich, mixed a list of greatest-hits drinks from past collaborations with Pelaccio, plus a few new ones. We also bumped into Frank Cisneros of the Drink, who revealed that he’ll be doing a stint behind the bar sometime soon. Food such as oysters, ham-and-grilled-cheese, deviled eggs, a burger, and, yes, fried chicken stuffed with ham and cheese (see the full menu below), seemed mostly there for its booze-soaking-up properties, though we did see a few groups sitting down to eat. As you can see in our slideshow, Cabrito’s once jauntily pink goat has received a makeover, and the space has been toned down, too, a fitting blank slate for the short life of this nightly changing drinkery.
