Restaurateur Billy Gilroy’s family run midtown red-sauce joint, East Side Social Club, has tossed in the napkin after thirteen months in business. Perhaps the throwback menu and red-checkered environs couldn’t compete with New Yorkers’ expanding definitions of Italian cuisine. Either way, Gilroy has always seemed more like a downtown guy to us; his two ventures below 14th Street, Employees Only and Macao Trading Co., continue to thrive.
