Chick-fil-A, the nationwide chain of fast-food joints that claims it invented the fried-chicken sandwich, has a much more sinister objective up its sleeve than simply steering America’s fast-food consumers away from eating beefy hamburgers, as its corny ad campaign suggests. By throwing its support behind a series of anti-gay and anti-marriage-equality conferences being held in Pennsylvania next month, the company, which states its purpose is “to glorify God,” is promoting a hateful and discriminatory agenda, the Advocate reports. Along with the Pennsylvania Family Institute, which DallasVoice.com calls “rabidly anti-gay,” Chick-fil-A is a key sponsor of the Art of Marriage, an event aimed at helping couples “apply what the Bible teaches about marriage in a powerful way.”
While the conferences themselves are not about same-sex marriage, Pennsylvania Family Institute is pushing for the state to return to “the biblical definition of marriage.” Since news broke that Chick-fil-A was supporting the group and its programs, references to the chain have been removed from the Pennsylvania Family Institute’s website and marketing materials. Chick-fil-A also tweeted yesterday, “For those seeing reports of a CFA sponsorship w/ the Penn Family Inst, we are looking into the issue and will provide a response ASAP.” The company has still not issued a statement.
The Advocate goes on to report that this isn’t the first time that Chick-fil-A has aligned itself with anti-gay organizations. Back in 2009, it backed Reverend James Dobson’s Focus on the Family, which reportedly has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support efforts to pass anti-gay legislation all over the country.
