Remembering an Old, Quiet Battle Against an Inner Sunset Burger King

Many probably recall seeing these signs out the window of the N-Judah at 9th Avenue that say “greasy smelly Burger King,” and “CORRUPT,” and wondered what charming NIMBY battle brought them to be there. Well, this amateur documentary “Neighborhood Beef,” which we just now discovered on YouTube but seems to be a few years old, tells the story of activist Harry Pariser and his multi-year ordeal warring against the “absent records and political loopholes” that brought the chain to his beloved neighborhood. We imagine he attended many public meetings, and our hearts go out to him, begging for the world to listen. Update: It seems that Pariser won his battle! In the place of that particular Burger King now stands Good Earth Cuisine, a healthy food café.
